Make A Decorative Balloon Garland To Display At Your Live Event

Leonard Perkins

There are many interesting ways that you can use balloon garlands to decorate the space where you will be hosting a live event. Balloons can bring a festive vibe to a social gathering and symbolize a specific theme.

Materials

  • paper
  • scissors
  • tape
  • mylar or latex balloons
  • fishing line
  • hooks
  • hand pump
  • banners and signage
  • additional accent materials

The Staging

Stage the area where you would like to add a group of balloons. A garland is a long strand that may contain several balloons along each inch of the decorative piece. Using paper cutouts to represent the balloons that will be displayed can help you determine how many mylar or latex balloons you will need to cover the space. After cutting out some round shapes, use tape to piece them together.

Hang the paper cutouts along a wall or use the paper cutouts to form a wraparound design that covers a banister or another pole-like feature. Upon completing the preliminary setup, determine how many balloons you will need. Purchase balloons and a hand pump from a party planning retail shop. At the shop, you will find all sorts of festive decor that can be used to embellish a balloon garland.

Faux flowers, beads, lighting, banners, and signage can be used to add bright colors and texture to your balloon display. Additional materials that are purchased from a party planning establishment can also be displayed separately. For instance, if you select two balloon colors, such as pink and white, you can choose these same colors for the other decorations and set up an independent display that is adjacent to or across from the balloon garland.

The Setup

The party planner who is helping you set up the area can help you fill balloons and attach them to a strand of fishing line. A fishing line is a material that is thin and flexible. It can be used to tightly bind balloons together, around the tied opening on each one or around a group of tied openings that are being attached together.

Each end of a fishing line will need to be secured to a stable item. Hooks can be used to secure the fishing line ends. One hook will need to be secured to each end of a balloon garland. Metal hooks can be used for this purpose. If you will be using other design elements in your display, hang up banners and signs first before securing a balloon garland over or under them.
